Becoming a Linked Photographer: New Media and Social Networking

It is no secret that the Internet has changed the world and the ways that people interact with one another. You can connect with friends or potential clients across the world in a click of a button. This fundamental change in the way we interact has had a profound change on the way photographers market themselves and present their work to the outside world.

This seminar will explain to photographers how this shift in communication has and will affect them, and how they can use this change to their advantage. We will cover a wide variety of tools to help photographers market themselves and make money from the wide variety of new media and social networking tools on the internet. Photographers will leave this seminar equipped with ideas and tools to get ahead of the curve and make connections through the internet. We will also cover practical examples of how other photographers have made these tools work for them.

Topics include best practices for social networking, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, blogging and much more. This course is available in the 1-2 hour overview format and the full day intensive. My book Linked Photographer: New Media and Social Networking will be on bookshelves and available online March 2010.

Fashion Concepts to Portrait Profits

Most people have a desire to feel famous, important or like a model. As both a fashion and portrait photographer, I frequently use my toolbox of fashion photography skills to produce high-impact portraiture. While I have shot cover and editorials shoots for many international fashion magazines, I also take portraits of the ‘average’ person. I use concepts from fashion photograph experience including styling, lighting, location and poses to make my portraiture more compelling. My clients love this unique approach I take that makes them feel flawless and high-fashion. I take fashion concepts to make portrait profits! I will take you through the techniques I use for this high fashion approach and will even compare how I’ve ‘remade’ my fashion photography for sessions with my clients. This workshop is available in the 1-2 hour overview or the full day workshop with hands-on shooting.

Portrait and Fashion Retouching: Tips and Tricks!

This workshop will take photographer beyond the basic of retouching. While most photographers understand basic blemish removal and teeth whitening, there are many other tricks to improving your portraits and many plug-ins that can help with the process. We discuss skin softening, lightening eyes, selective contrast, vignettes, use of layers and layer masks, and plug-in software like Portraiture and Nik Software. We also cover the concepts of fashion ideals of beauty, and learn how to use Photoshop tools like liquify to achieve our visual goals. The course is available in the 1-2 hour format.

Breaking in to Fashion and Beauty Photography

Breaking in to the fashion photography industry is no easy task, but I have done it myself and have many tips to share. We discuss organizing your first fashion shoots, marketing yourself, getting published, and expanding your client base. I have been published in dozens of fashion magazines internationally, but this was only achieved through a careful approach to the industry and a knowledge of what clients are seeking and expect from photographers.  This workshop is available in the 1-2 hour format.

Advanced Studio Lighting Techniques

Many photographers get into a habit of using only one or two lighting techniques for all their clients. Yet locking yourself into lighting restricts creativity and could possibly give a boring consistency to a photographer’s body of work. There are a number of studio techniques and light modifiers that can visually spice up your work. We discuss lighting modifiers such as beauty dishes, snoots and barn doors and how to utilize these in your portraiture. Furthermore, we cover a variety of techniques such as ‘beauty boxes’, backlight, and more to utilize in your every-day portraits. This workshops is available in the 1-2 hour overview format and the full-day seminar with hands-on shoot time.
